Delicious Greek-Style Meatballs!

I absolutely LOVE Greek food! One of my favourite meals is a souvlaki or a gyro with greek salad and roasted potatoes - DELISHHH! So I was pretty excited to stumble upon joyfulhealthyeats greek meatball recipe on pinterest, I was looking for some dinner inspo and was pretty excited to put my twist on this recipe. The original recipe called for ground turkey but I wanted to try it with ground beef because - yum!! I used Greek seasoning that I bought in bulk which I think made these meatballs so delicious! I also added in red pepper flakes (a lil spice!), some breadcrumbs and an egg to help keep everything together.

I was soooo happy with the result! These meatballs are so flavourful, moist and definitely satisfied my Greek food craving right at home. They are also super easy to make, just throw everything in a bowl, mix with your hands and then roll! It seems like more work than it is, but I was able to make the mixture and have the meatballs cooked within 30 minutes! I used an ice cream scoop to keep the meat balls roughly the same size and fried them on the stove top in a large pan with some olive oil.

Serve the meatballs with a side of greek salad, rice or with roasted potatoes! I opted to add these meatballs to a pita and topped it with tzatziki, fresh romaine, sliced red onions, cucumber and tomato! Delicious and a great idea for a weeknight meal!

Don't believe me, check out the recipe below and give it a try!!

Greek-Style Meatballs

Makes 24 Meatballs

1 lb lean ground beef

1/3 C finely diced red onion

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tbsp greek seasoning

1 C chopped fresh spinach

1 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper

Pinch of red pepper flakes

1/2 C Italian breadcrumbs

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

1 egg

3/4 C flour

1. To a large bowl add the ground beef, red onion, garlic, greek seasoning, spinach, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, italian breadcrumbs and olive oil. Mix together with your hands, just beginning to combine the ingredients. Then add in the egg and continue mixing with your hands until everything is evenly combined. Use an ice cream scoop to measure out the meat mixture and then roll and form the meatballs with your hands.

2. Before frying, roll each meat ball very lightly into some flour. This helps hold in the moisture and flavour, place the lightly floured meat balls on a baking sheet until ready to cook.

3. In a large frying pan, heat about 2 tbsp olive oil on medium heat. Once the pan is hot, add in the meatballs (careful not to overcrowd the pan, fry in batches if you must) and cook the meatballs. It takes about 2-3 minutes on each side, roll them around to make sure all sides get equally fried. Once the meatballs are fully cooked, remove onto a plate covered with paper towels to soak up any excess oil. Repeat until all the meatballs are cooked. And there you have it, greek style meatballs ready to enjoy right at home! Only thing left to do is serve, devour & enjoy!
